Dear listmembers,
Only few words to describe myself...
I am a Ph. D. candidate in mediaeval art history at the Scuola Normale
Superiore in Pisa, Italy. I am mostly interested in subjects concerning the
involvement of images in the religious life of 13th and 14th centuries. In
this sense, I have written some essays, and ultimately a forthcoming book,
about the history of icons attributed to St. Luke and the Western diffusion
of legends pertaining to sacred images venerated in Constantinople and the
Holy Land. My present research is mainly devoted to the history of votive
donations consisting in religious images (painted panels, frescoes, statues)
in Late Medieval Italy, with a special attention to inscriptions within the
works of art which display devotional formulas (such as a petitioner's
request for his soul's sake).
