I am currently completing a dissertation in Italian Studies at Johns
Hopkins and teach in the English Dept. at the University of Rome "La
Sapienza". The dissertation explores literary representations of maternity
in early modern Italy (Alberti, Machiavelli, and Ariosto) and ties them to
contemporary historical phenomena. I co-edited (together with Laura
Benedetti and Silvia Ross) a volume of essays on gender representation in
Italian culture and am preparing an article on Boccaccio's CORBACCIO. I am
interested in gender-related issues in the Renaissance and women writers in
general; others fields of interest include historiography, rhetoric, and
the history of medicine.
