This virus warning is, in it's origin at least, a hoax. However, someone
has now written a Trojan Horse (a program which wrecks your computer but
doesn't self-replicate) named AOL4FREE.COM.
These types of hoax announcements seem to come up from time to time, so
it's useful to know a few basic facts. No harm can come to your computer
through an ASCII text E-mail message. Binary attachments are, however,
another matter. It is possible to mess up Microsoft Word by reading
certain infected Word attatchments, and an executable attachment could
do almost anything. Never open an E-mail attachment unless you trust the
sender, or, better yet, have first scanned the attachment for viruses.
