Dear professor Ferzoco,
thank you for the anecdote about San Lorenzo da Spoleto. I am writing an
essay on the theme of the foreigner or the outsider in literature and I
might make use of your example. Two years ago a conference on "Lo straniero"
was held at Cagliari and the proceedings will be out soon, published by
Bulzoni. There is a small book by a German scholar on the denigratory ways
in which the German people were referred to in the Italian literature of the
Renaissance, from Petrarch onward: PETER AMELUNG, Das Bild des Deutschen in
der Literatur der italienischen Renaissance(München 1964); I reviewed it at
the time in GSLI CXLI.
You have a very interesting subject there.
All the best from Remo Ceserani
