I am a first-year Ph.D. student at the Italian Department of Cambridge
University. I took my first degree in music at royal Holloway College,
University of London, and then went on to do an MA in Renaissance Theory
and Culture at Sussex University. I wrote my MA dissertation on Moderata
Fonte's Il merito delle donne in the context of the production and
publication of women's writing in Sixteenth Century Italy.
My Ph.D thesis is on the Seventeenth Century Jewish Venetian poet and
saloniere Sara Copio Sullam. I am particularly interested in the
following topics:
-invective and academic disputes
-conversions of Jews, attempts to convert Jews by Christians
-epistolary relationships between men and women
-"la belle juive": myths/literary stereotypes of Jewish women
I would be most grateful for any comments or bibliographical suggestions
for primary and secondary sources in English, Italian, German, French,
Spanish or Dutch, concerning roughly the period from 1550 to 1700.
