Bill, Thanks for forcing to make myself clear. Yes, I agree that we
may branch off onto multiple DC tracks. I just want to make sure that
the purpose of each track is clearly defined so that the (a) track
does not in mid stream try to turn itself into the (b) track, etc. etc.

Subject: Meta2 and ACM '97
Folks,
The ACM DL '97 conference is in Philadelphia on August 24-26. D-Lib
is
organizing a series of panels/working sessions on hot topics in
digital
libraries.
One panel will be on, "Issues in metadata". It would be an
opportunity to
present the current state of the Dublin Core and Warwick Framework,
and
discuss issues such as eye of newt.
At present I am looking for volunteers -- members of the Meta2 group
who
plan to attend the conference and would like to join this panel. If
you
are interested, let me know.
Bill
P.S. On eye of newt. I suspect that most of us agree that a single
version
on DC can not satisfy the two requirements that Carl mentions: (a) "a
simple metadata scheme for [simple-minded] web authors", (b) "simpler
(than
MARC) but machine interoperable cataloging scheme". Perhaps we should
have
two engineering tracks. In any event, I hope that (a) will not be
forgotten.
