That would also produce another bloated monster (as in C++ = C + new
stuff). We need language committees whose members do not think they work
with the "one true language" and are willing to recognize that large
applications need to be built with more than one language. Thus, we need
standardized interface methods for combining languages, user interfaces
(which include command lines), etc.
If the ANSI and ISO communities refuse to face this issue, Microsoft and
Intel will solve the problem for us. Are you ready for NT on the Cray?
Are you ready for a Cray built with Pentium chips? Are you ready for
systems that don't work?
And finally, remember that Microsoft has abandoned Fortran!
