Necessitate is arguable, but:
1) The internet does have the advantage to people who have difficulty
reading, whether dyslexic or otherwise that (practically) any materials
that you get over the internet are already in text-to-speech synthesis
readable form. In so far as you can get course-relevant materials, whether
from tutors or from private research, from the internet, they are much more
digestible than getting them in print.
2) I would also raise again the question of the internet and a modem as an
efficient means of giving technical support to people with computers.
3) The extra efficiency and ease (for a dyslexic person particularly) of
communicating via email compared with traditional means.
Set against those are:
1) Another lot of learning curves to climb and
2) Another way of wasting time instead of doing course work (along with
computer games)!
(And apologies for posting to disforum what was meant to be a private and
more blatant plug yesterday)
