Revelations of Tradition: Harry Smith's Anthology of American
Folk Music and its Legacy - two concerts and a symposium,
Washington, DC area
Events co-sponsored by the Smithsonian, Wolf Trap Foundation for the
Arts, the Folk Alliance, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the
Folklore Society of Greater Washington, the Harry Smith Archives, Nick
Amster, the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, and
WETA-FM. Concerts on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25,
at 7:30 pm. at the Barns of Wolf Trap. Performers include Dave Van
Ronk, Balfa Toujours, Greg Hooven, John Sebastian, New Lost City

The symposium will be held October 25, 9 am to 5:15 pm at the Hall of
Musical Instruments, 3rd floor, west, National Museum of American
History, 14th Street & Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.
Folklorists, cultural historians, and musicians will discuss the work of
Harry Smith, his Anthology of American Folk Music, and its impact on the
folk and blues revivals, and rock and roll. Speakers include Greil Marcus,
Robert Cantwell, John Cohen, Mike Seeger, Millie Rahn, Gerald Davis,
Jeff Place, Alan Jabbour, Rani Singh, Luc Sante, Steven Taylor, Peter
Goldsmith, Horace Boyer, Worth Long, Neil Rosenberg, Joe Wilson, and
