Dear Medieval-Religionists:
The conference program for this year's special combined annual meeting of
the Southeastern Medieval Association and the Texas Medieval Association
to be held October 3-6 at Baylor University in Waco is now accessible at
the Texas Medieval Association Web Page:
http://www.towson.edu/~duncan/tmahome.html
It will not be posted in full to this list because its size (37 screens)
might take up too much of some subscribers' account space.
The theme of the conference is "The Apocalypse in the Middle Ages (and in
Modern Times)." Plenary speakers include Helen Cooper of University
College, Oxford; William Pitts of Baylor University; and Robert Somerville
of Columbia University. Given Waco's recent tragic involvement with
apocalypticism, the conference features several regular sessions on the
apocalypse in the Middle Ages and, in special presentations, the
apocalypse as anticipated near Waco by Branch Davidians.
In addition to numerous general sessions on medieval history, literature,
music, and art, the conference will include a performance of medieval
music, a new adaptation of a medieval play, a barbecue on the Waco
suspension bridge, and a visit to the site of the "Mount Carmel Compound."
Registration information and forms are also available on the Texas Medieval
Association Web Page. The official conference hotel is the Waco Hilton
($67 per room) at 1-800-234-5244. For additional information contact the
Program Chair, Tom Hanks ([log in to unmask]).
Y'all Come.
