As we have several new members, I thought it a good idea to point out that
our archives can be very useful to you. To look at them, use your Web

In fact, if you happen to look at one of our messages from last September,
you would find the following:

Hello medieval-religion list members,
Today (September 11) is the feastday of the following holy people who
had cults devoted to them in the Middle Ages:
Protus and Hyacinth, martyrs (date unknown)
Theodora of Alexandria (no date)
Paphnutius, Bishop (c. 350)
Patiens, Bishop of Lyons (c. 480)
Deiniol, Bishop (c. 584)
Peter of Chavanon (1080)
Louis of Thuringia (1227)
Carolyn Muessig, University of Bristol

We have continued these messages -- admittedly, at times incompletely and
not always on the actual day of the feasts -- as a way of reminding us of
the rich diversity of cults in the Middle Ages. These posts have never been
intended as a definitive statement on every medieval cult; they have,
however, served as the starting point of many useful discussions (most
recently, as I recall, we've discussed the cult of St Fiacre, as well as
that of a Carmelite father, and yet another one about the inconsistencies
in the dates on which feasts are celebrated -- heartfelt thanks to those
who contributed!). Also, on many occasions, members have corrected the
errors or omissions of our posts, and we are very grateful indeed for this
assistance.
In this second round of FEAST postings, we'll try (energy and time
permitting) to incorporate extra material gleaned throughout the year. As
always, your advice is welcomed, and your participation is strongly
encouraged.
