Dear Gary,
Although I received the bulletin, I'm afraid I didn't spot your
query. I'm working on the preaching of the fourth crusade as background
to the preaching of the Albigensian and Fifth crusade by a group of
Paris-educated prelates, including James of Vitry. I spent some weeks on
Fulk, reading all the various chronicle accounts and the two extant
articles on him. However, I was able to find no more information on
Herluin that what you already have. Interesting that Herluin is judged
by something which is beyond his control--the success of his recruits'
campaign. These allusions to crusade preachers such as Herluin are
tantalizing in that they indicate those who were notable enough crusade
preachers to be recorded, but weren't big enough names to have surviving
sermons. I came across another preacher named Druardus, who seems to
have combined anti-usury preaching with crusade preaching in the early
thirteenth century, but again, a mere mention.
