Thank-you Dale, Mark, and Phil for your quick responses to my late-night
ramblings. Your suggestions have inspired me to liven up the entry by adding and
changing as you suggest. The "helper" words reference must be the result of my
elementary school children (although I suspect that they know grammatical
terminology better than most of our current university students, products of an
educational phase where these items were swept away).
Two questions: I have seen the hymn I am using, Veni Sancte Spiritus
(not Veni Creator) attributed to Stephen Langton. Is this known? And in what
liturgical settings (in the Middle Ages, circa 14th century or later) is Veni
Sancte Spiritus used?
As for all the various later to modern uses, thanks for wealth of
references--they will convey well the durability of these hymns.
