Clearly there is a great deal of interest out there in getting some entity
off and running in some as yet unspecified formal way. The international
angle makes me all the more enthusiastic about this group - it will be a
truely novel and potentially mould breaking move in geography. Having
thought about the various mesages over th alst few days the following
actions seem eminently sensible to me.
1) Creat a membership based on a) being on this mailing list, b) informing
members of the contact group (below) that you want to be involved and c)
paying a £5 entirely voluntary fee to someone who is willing to open a bank
account in this name (CGF). I am quite happy to open such an account and
provide some form of accounting...
2) Use the money to do several things. a) produce a newsletter which will
come out 3 or 4 times a year to be sent to all the people on the list. The
first such newsletter will include a constitution to be agreed upon (see
below). b) help fund a conference for critical geography which will be
international and include activists etc.
3) Create a constitution by a) circulating a prototype on this network
based on ideas from Joe Painter and others and b) revision of the
constitution and circulation in hard form in the newsletter to be further
revised.
4) Including sessions on critical geography in future geography conferences
around the world. It might be a good and much belated idea to get a
critical geography committee included in the International Geographical
Union which is a truely international body.
All of these are purely my own thoughts although they are based on mailings
from the last few months. What do people think. I have (re?) published
the contact group names and details below - I think now is the time to add
international names and addresses. Please write in if you are willing to
be included as regional contacts a la Nick Blomley.
