Ah, but the catchment for under 75s remains unchanged, thus it is
deliberately discriminating against the elderly in a way that GPs
don't.
Cardiff hospitals have recently merged their acute services for
general medicine and geriatric medicine, so now age makes no
difference to where you are admitted in an emergency. Geriatric
Medicine continues as a sub speciality ( in the same way as say
Cardiology) for appropriate cases of any age group, but all firms take
part in a unified general medical on call rota. This system works well
and seems to be popular with all concerned.
