Postdoctoral Epidemiologist/Statistician
Department of Paediatrics, Oxford
Grade 7: £32,817 - £40,322 with a discretionary range to £44,045 p.a.
The Oxford Vaccine Group is based within the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Oxford and carries out research of major national and international importance in the field of infection and immunology.
We seek a self-motived epidemiologist/statistician with an interest in the epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases, and measles vaccines in particular. The postholder will primarily focus on delivering a large sero-epidemiological study of measles immunity in infants by modelling antibody decay using data from multiple studies. This work will contribute to global vaccine policy on the optimal timing of administration of measles vaccines in infants. In addition, the postholder will be responsible for drafting major peer-reviewed publications from this work with the opportunity to lead as first author and manage their own academic research and associated activities, ideally including contributing to research/experimental design.
In addition to this specific study, the postholder will be involved in real world data analysis from clinical observational studies and national/international clinical trials of vaccines and infectious diseases, as well as contributing to the design and conduct of clinical studies and preparation of new research proposals.
To succeed in this post you will hold a PhD in statistics/epidemiology or a relevant field, have excellent communication skills and a commitment to writing high quality manuscripts which present important scientific findings with clarity. Strong analytical skills, an enquiring and flexible attitude, and an interest in working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines will also be important components for success.
This is a full-time post located at the Centre for Clinical Vaccinology and Tropical Medicine at Churchill Hospital, Oxford OX3 7LE and is offered for 2 years in the first instance. For further details or an information discussion, please contact Dr Merryn Voysey using the link below.
