*Freedom Train*
To Harriet Tubman
By Patrick Blessinger
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within
you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to
change the world.”
- Harriet Tubman
The long, winding, and uncertain
road to freedom ran north. For
millions of burdened people who
lived in harsh bondage, the dream
of one day riding on the freedom
train – the Underground Railroad –
provided a glint of hope and solace
in an otherwise inhumane existence.
Along with the assistance of other
brave souls who risked their lives
so the captives could breathe the air
of freedom, the heroic Harriet Tubman
served as conductor of the freedom
train and helped thousands of people
suffering from oppression to escape
the wretched shackles of bondage.
The freedom train was not made
of wood and steel and it did not run
on tracks and wheels, but rather,
it was an escape network of secret
routes and safe houses, guided by
the North Star, and led by the daring
fearlessness of Harriet Tubman –
the courageous Moses of her time.
