At EIUG this year I was due to do a short session on MeeScan self-issue app but was unable to make it to the conference, so I thought some details here might be useful. We recently implemented the app across all our sites at UHI. It uses secure SIP2 for sending transaction details to Sierra. The server is in the UK. It does not store any patron data once the transaction is registered in Sierra. Apart from general checkout stats and location statistics, everything else is purged.
The student app can be used on apple or android. Users can login using shibboleth on their own device or scan their ID. There is also an option to provide an iPad kiosk in the library to cater to those who don’t have smartphones. When running in kiosk mode, the app refreshes after each transaction ready for the next user.
We paid a bit extra for the custom app. Along with being able to brand the app in the stores, it meant we could also provide a translation file so that users can toggle between English and Gaelic.
The app is compatible with RFID and Elctromagnetic security stations which the vendor also provides. It uses GPS to determine the location of the user and ensure that the app only works on campus. Once an item is scanned, the app then prompts the user to remove the security before they leave the library. The app also communicates with the MeeScan server to ensure that only those books that have been scanned in the app can have their security removed. Once a transaction is complete, the user receives an email with the due dates to their university email address. Feedback from students has been positive in the short time the app has been available.
The app can also be configured to display a student barcode which may be useful for universities with access gates.
If anyone has any questions, please get in touch on or off list. There are some screenshots in the app store:

There is a framework agreement in Scotland for purchasing the software and equipment.
Many thanks
Richard
