Hi all,
I was wondering whether you would be able to assist with the identification of some charred remains which were recovered from a Romano-British refuse pit. The site is located in North Yorkshire on a glacio-fluvial gravel terrace surrounded by peat bogs. We have recovered around eight of these individuals alongside a good number of charred peas and brassica seeds. I wonder if you all had any thoughts on what these could be? Our current best guesses are grass rhizomes, or perhaps bog myrtle (Myrica gale).
All the best,
