Enclosed is a photo of a problem fossil replica in ?hollow papier-mache,
possibly dating to c. 1837, ex Free Church of Scotland College
collection. It is possibly a lecture demonstration replica. Note it is
shaped like a vertebral centrum, with painted texture and patterns.
Maximum dimension about 138 mm from lower left to top right, measuring
parallel to the apparent ‘articular face’ (Photograph W. R. P. Crighton,
courtesy National Museums Scotland).
Have you anything similar in your collection, seen anything similar or
think you know what it may represent?
