Lecturer in Mass Communications (Teaching only)

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) offers programmes in the areas of History, English Literature, Media, Culture, Communication and, Sociology, Criminology and International Relations. You will be joining a vibrant school that provides an outstanding learning environment for students and prioritises both excellence in teaching and supporting staff to produce impactful and high quality research of international standing. HSS is well positioned for a very strong REF 2021 performance and in the recent NSS 2018 survey the subject areas in the school scored an average of 89% overall satisfaction, which is 6% above the sector average. Students are encouraged to be creative, enthusiastic and scholarly in their approach to learning. Their programmes of study allow them to engage in debate with a range of practitioners and cultural partners locally, nationally and internationally, demonstrating the university’s civic and global engagement agenda.

You will join our collegial and innovative School and teach and lead a number of modules related to Media, Culture, Communication and Mass Communications at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Most notably these will include Research Methods modules both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, Digital Cultures at Masters level and Media Policy and Regulation at final-year undergraduate level. You should also be able to supervise Masters dissertations across a range of topics relevant to the study of Mass Communications. You are required to have experience of delivering lectures and seminars at HE level and of module leadership and associated academic administration. You should have a relevant teaching qualification and have teaching specialisms appropriate to the modules above.

We currently offer a successful MA in Mass Communications. Part of your role will be to develop learning materials for a proposed distance-learning version of the MA in Mass Communications. You should have appropriate experience of contributing to distance learning and/or developing distance learning materials.

This is an exciting time to join LJMU and a growing team of staff in a Media department that is developing exciting new initiatives in an important phase of renewal. The proposed distance-learning MA in Mass Communications is a key part of this renewal so this post represents an ideal opportunity for an individual who wants to be a key part of developing Masters provision for an international audience.

LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.
Informal enquires may be made to the Programme Leader, Dr Steve Spittle, email: [log in to unmask] or telephone 0151 231 5045.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
