The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) is the professional Association for Trauma and Orthopaedic (T&O) surgeons practising in the UK. www.boa.ac.uk
We have recently completed the first phase of a project to collate, review and catalogue our collections which include books, paintings, photographic material, instruments and prostheses, donated objects, gifts and official and personal documents including letters, committee and board minutes.
We need to move to the next stage of the project and conduct a more in depth review, develop the collections management process to prescribed standards and support the BOA trustees to make decisions about the future of the collections including storage and internet access. In particular we require an archivist to assist with the following:
• Audit collections and existing catalogue records
• Review policies and procedures
• Recommend a strategy and implementation plan for the future of our collections
• Make recommendations for storage and/ or transfers to more suitable repositories
• Advise on possible methods for internet access
This is an exciting opportunity to help inform and develop our collections and make them sustainable for the future. It is anticipated that the project will take approximately six months, but this will be informed by the tender process.
The successful applicant will have experience of working with archive collections, good IT and communication skills and be a methodical worker with an eye for detail. Experience of working in teams and with volunteers will be essential as will experience of using collections management databases.
Please respond to this brief with:
• A short methodology statement explaining how the brief requirements stated above will be delivered within the timescale required. This should include an anticipated timetable of activities and key dates.
• CV and details of relevant professional experience and skills, demonstrating any experience of similar projects.
• 2 references from clients of similar work.
• Details of professional insurance or indemnity cover.
Closing date for tenders: 27 September 2019
