I submitted a batch of EL7 test jobs to GridPP DIRAC yesterday which ran yesterday in CernVM4 VMs and only in CernVM4 VMs. It’s the same as LHCb in this respect. The pilot code in the VMs is identical.

I don’t think that is a good idea: to assume a whole space (virtual CE) is EL6 or EL7 for all DIRAC sub-VOs. Individual VMs can be one or the other for different sub-VOs, depending on what they need. A big advantage of virtualisation is that you can run different operating system versions alongside each other. The vacuum pipe could list both versions for them if NA62 need that, for instance. And the site doesn’t need to worry about any of this: it’s all in the vacuum pipe defaults.

I'd not enabled the NA62 sub-VO for EL7 yet. I’m still testing it on one VM factory. This will be academic once they are all switched to CernVM4/CentOS7/EL7 though (unless someone, say NA62?, needs some CernVM3/SL6/EL7 still?)

The EL7 jobs match correctly when the pilot works out what version it’s running on, and in the general case the sites don’t select which version they are running (it’s determined by the defaults in the vacuum pipe JSON file we publish.) Once I’m sure it works ok (over in LHCb-world, the DIRAC VMs have been running LHCb MC over night and uploading ok), I plan to switch everything to CentOS 7 style VMs unless there are particular sub-VOs which still need SL6.
