Join us to learn about RFPs and how they are becoming an increasingly important part of the activities of all publishers, large and small, and generally represent a significant investment which should be well managed. In this session we'll examine the various ways in which sourcing decisions can be made, with views from both purchasers and vendors. The aim of the day will be to provide comprehensive, practical support to help attendees choose the right process, and the right partner, for their particular needs.

ALPSP/UKSG Seminar
Shifting Power Centers in Scholarly Communication Implications and future roles for libraries and publishers, Wednesday 13 November, London, UK
This year's One-Day Conference is a partnership between UKSG and ALPSP, two organizations uniquely placed to understand and address the scholarly communications' community's needs and concerns in this rapidly evolving ecosystem. We are moving beyond the "fall out" from the digital revolution - and its implications for user behaviours, customer expectations, product formats and business models - into a much bigger shift, where established roles and accepted models are being questioned. The event promises strategic insight, practical takeaways and robust discussion among research funders, academics, librarians and publishers. Confirmed speakers already include:
*       Beth Montague-Hellen, Senior Research Librarian at the University of Nottingham and Regina Everitt, Director of Library and Learning Services at the University of East London, on future roles for libraries

'I Never Metadata I Didn't Like' (members early bird rate available until 2 September)

Metadata is said to be "a love letter to the future". Let's get together for a day and design our future.
Everyone involved in scholarly communications touches metadata at some point, even if you don't call it that. Behind every manuscript submission, every link on the web, every platform launch plan, and every analytics dashboard - lies metadata.
In this program, as the title suggests, everyone is a metadata fan! We will hear from publishers who describe their journey to enrich metadata and their lessons learned along the way. We'll also hear from consumers of metadata who will bang the drum for an emphasis on abstracts or acceptance dates (or you name it), and from infrastructure organisations who attempt to collaborate to make it easier for everyone to do better.

Metadata Survey
You are invited to participate in a survey to help better understand metadata knowledge, attitudes, and usage in scholarly communications. The survey is being carried out by the Metadata 2020 project, and seeks input from all key stakeholder groups - researchers, publishers, librarians, and repository managers.
