Dear all,

I’m writing to let you know about an exciting opportunity (see below) to coordinate and develop peer support here at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

There is quiet a short period in which to apply for this. We really appreciate any help you offer to spread the word.

Many thanks,

Theresa

Job Advert

Role: Peer Support Development Coordinator
Location: Lambeth IPTT, 151 Blackfriars Road London SE1 8EL
Grade: Band 5
Hours: Part time (18.75 hours per week)
Salary:£29,056 - £36,134 pa inc pro rata

*Deadline to apply: 15/07/2019*

Information: http://jobs.slam.nhs.uk/job/v1777391

We are looking to recruit a Peer Support Development Coordinator to co-lead the delivery of the Peer Support Service within Lambeth Integrated Psychological Therapies Team (IPTT). Lambeth IPTT is a secondary care service that provides psychological intervention for adults with complex and enduring mental health difficulties.

The service operates via four peer support groups, led by volunteers who have lived experience of mental health difficulties. The groups include an art, creative writing, mindfulness and women’s group. They were created to compliment psychological intervention provided at Lambeth IPTT and aim to enable both volunteers and people attending the groups to gain confidence, new skills and opportunities, whilst increasing social connectivity.

This service is based on a recovery model approach that encompasses empathy, warmth, acceptance, authenticity, compassion and humanity. Peer Support is based on the understanding that there are many recognized benefits to being supported on the journey of recovery by someone who has walked the same path.

As the peer support development coordinator you will oversee the project in a variety of ways. For example; by ensuring Volunteer Facilitators receive regular supervision and access to training opportunities; Organising resources and financial reimbursements for the groups and Volunteers Facilitators; Facilitating groups when necessary; Assisting new referrals to access the support groups; Utilising IT systems and databases to store and manage service information; Liaising with the Lambeth IPTT staff team, peer support colleagues across the trust and voluntary organisations to developing sustainable relationships to help develop the service.

This is an exciting opportunity to steer the development of a project in co-production with people using the service, whilst gaining support from both the larger service it sits within. We are looking for candidates who have a good understanding of the principles of peer support in mental health and experience of initiating, developing and running projects and of working with people with mental health problems. Successful applicants will have a proven track record in project management, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work using your own initiative and as part of a wider team.
People who live in Lambeth come from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and we would welcome applicants who would be stimulated by the challenge that this presents to traditional methods of service delivery.

You will be required to attend supervision fortnightly with a member of the clinical staff team and attend business meetings monthly with the Lambeth IPTT clinical team.

The business meetings are on a Thursday, therefore you are required to work on a Thursday. Other preferably work days include Monday and Friday as this is when peer support groups occur. However, there is flexibility around this.

Best wishes,

Theresa
