Full time (0.8 FTE could be considered), funding available to 31st May 2022
ABOUT THE ROLE:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and motivated statistician/epidemiologist to join the Biostatistics Research Group in the Department of Health Sciences to develop and carry out research to a jointly funded British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK project ("Cardio-oncology: A high resolution national electronic health record investigation of the interplay between cancer and heart disease"). The post holder, at Research Associate level (grade 7) or Research Assistant level (grade 6), will contribute to the development and application of statistical methods using the UK-first linkage of population based cardiovascular audits with the national cancer registry. The post will require expertise in biostatistics/cancer or cardiovascular epidemiology/applied statistics.
The aim of the project is to address important hypotheses regarding the interplay between cancer and cardiovascular disease, including questions related to the medical management of co-morbid patients, how treatments for one condition may affect the risk of the other developing, and the impact on future morbidity and survival (and cause of death). The project includes a multidisciplinary research team and aims to provide relevant evidence-based information for patients, clinicians, and policy makers.
ABOUT YOU:
A degree level education in a subject with substantial mathematics or statistical content is essential for this role. For grade 7, you will have a PhD (or relevant MSc plus equivalent research experience) in a relevant area (medical statistics / cancer or cardiovascular epidemiology) and be able to provide evidence of research productivity (including high-quality research publications and presentations).
