Dear all,
I wanted to bring your attention to a a one-year post-doctoral position (maternity leave cover; TLV-13 100%) in the Archaeological Stable Isotope Laboratory (ASIL) located in the Institute of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology, Kiel University, available from August 19th, 2019. ASIL hosts a dynamic group of post-doctoral researchers and doctoral candidates investigating ancient animal and plant husbandry practices, domestication and the spread of pastoralism, and human dietary intake in various (pre)historic contexts in the Near East, Europe, and Central Asia.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
• Conduct research on a tightly focused isotope project (δ13C, δ15N, δ18O, 87Sr/86Sr) of their choice that addresses questions of archaeological significance and can be completed within the duration of the post-doc. A limited amount of funding (up to 6,000 Euro) is available for the project.
• Teach in the Institute for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology the equivalent of 4 SWS (the equivalent of 3 hours a week) for two semesters on a topic of their choice in the format of their choice (as a lecture, seminar, a hands-on lab course)
• Assist in the management of the Archaeological Stable Isotope Laboratory (ASIL), which entails monitoring equipment and consumables, ordering new consumables, and helping to supervise sample preparation by master’s students and student assistants
• Run a Picarro Cavity Ring-Down Spectrometer as part of an on-going collaborative ASIL project measuring leaf water oxygen isotopes. The applicant does not need to have prior experience running a Picarro; training in sample collection and instrumentation will be provided.
• Assist in the preparation of tooth enamel samples for strontium isotope analyses for various ASIL projects with opportunities for involved collaboration on those projects.
Applicants should send to Prof. Cheryl Makarewicz via email ([log in to unmask]) a brief statement of interest, a brief statement of the proposed research project (2 pages), teaching proposal (1 page) and CV by July 10th. Potential applicants should feel free to email me with any questions.
Best wishes,
Cheryl
