Graham,
Many thanks, these look very useful. The immediate case is NHS based, so I guess there's issues over not sharing the data, how to reuse it etc.
Regards,
Pete

Subject: Re: Data sharing agreements
Hi Pete,
What sort of conditions are they needing?
We recently came up with 4 additional ‘general’ licences as outlined below:
Closed Use General Licence (CUGL) - like Open Gov licence, but doesn’t allow onward sharing of data
Closed Use Non-Commercial General Licence (CUNCGL) - like Non-commercial Open Gov licence, but doesn’t allow onward sharing of data
Restricted Use General Licence (RUGL) - time limited licences that are designed for when the data are restricted/embargoed; permission from the data provider must also be sought before any publication is made using the data (i.e. protecting the data providers rights to have first dibs at using the data)
Restricted Use Non-Commercial General Licence (RUNCGL) - as above and do not permit commercial gain to be made from the data
These are designed for other repositories to make use of too, not just for ourselves! You can access their present versions here: http://artefacts.ceda.ac.uk/licences/
I’ll be presenting about the first two of these at the Open Repositories conference next week in Hamburg in case you or anyone else is there :)
Essentially we came up with CUGL and CUNCGL to remove a barrier for data providers who liked most of OGL/CC licence concepts but not the onward sharing of data, wanting people to come back to a canonical source. The other two were primarily to give us a licence that we can use for data when in an embargo period before being released under a more permissive licence. CUGL and CUNCGL were created with input from someone at the National Archives and pretty much follow the same style and wording where possible. RUGL and RUNCGL then deprived from CUGL and CUNCGL, but without any input from the National Archives. (When coming up with CUGL and CUNCGL I had been in touch with Creative Commons, but while they supported what we were doing they were keen that we made it clear that these licences were distinct from the CC family of licences).
In the link above you’ll also see a sub-folder with our other specific licences, but I don’t think there is anything of use there.
Let me know if you have any questions/comments.
Cheers,
Graham

Colleagues,
we have researchers who want to deposit data on the archive with conditions of access and use which go beyond the various CC licences. Does anybody have example(s) of data sharing agreements they'd be happy to share?
