Background
The Chartered Institute and Logistics and Transport (CILT) is the professional body in Ireland for those working in Logistics, Transport and Supply Chain. The Institute has in excess of 400 members in the Republic of Ireland. It is a territory of the wider CILT International organisation which has 33,000 members globally working in over 100 countries.
CILT is a registered charity, its key remit is to provide education and services to our industry sector. CILT provides a Certificate & Diploma course in Logistics & Supply Chain Management and is the examining agent for the ADR, DGSA and CPC Management Certificate on behalf of the Health & Safety Authority and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. It also organises a comprehensive series of events throughout the year on behalf of its membership.
In accordance with CILT’s ambitions on supporting and developing the profession we are recruiting a Researcher on a 0.5 FTE fixed-term contract (20 hours per week).
Function
Reporting to the CEO and the Policy Committee, the Transport and Logistics Policy Researcher will take responsibility for a variety of research policy, research strategy initiatives and projects. In particular, the post holder will be responsible for effective and comprehensive briefings to senior management and Institute members on policy issues, as well as delivering a range of work streams. The researcher is expected to develop effective links with stakeholders across the Industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Policy Researcher will support a range of activities within CILT that include but are not limited to the following:
To effectively and efficiently research a topic and produce a high quality report to provide a basis for an Institute policy, membership briefing or submission to a public authority.
Responsibility for the collation, interpretation and dissemination of key policy/industry information.
Data collection, analysing and presenting relevant secondary and empirical research.
Delivering timely written and verbal reports on aspects of the research policy and research findings.
Preparation of responses to policy related initiatives.
External consultations on behalf of CILT.
Contributing to the development of a clear research communications strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates must have an honours bachelor degree or equivalent, a postgraduate qualification is desirable.
Previous research experience essential (Transport and Logistics research experience desirable).
Knowledge of current transport and logistics policy/industry issues.
Experience of developing reports for senior decision-makers on the bases of complex
data/information.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present complex information clearly and engagingly to a variety of audiences.
