Sir, I have in my possession an old chest inherited from my Grandfather. He was a miner in North Yorkshire in the first half of the 20th century. I believe the box was part of his 'mining life' but cannot be sure. However painted on the front of the chest is 'Up and Down Lodge' followed by a number and a location that I can't quite make out, it looks like North Otley. Have you any knowledge of miners belonging to 'Up and Down' Lodges? Any information would be of great help as at the moment I have none.
