Dear Leon
BLDSC have always permitted their books to be posted out for home reading which is why they probably permit self-service.
Best wishes

Subject: Re: Self-service interlibrary loan transactions
Hi all,
Just a quick follow-up on the idea of self-issue kiosks and automated return sorters for interlibrary loans. As we get more than half our book loans from British Library, I consulted them directly. They discussed it with their Collection Security team, and they are happy for us to put books from the Document Supply Centre through self-service, with the proviso that we are still liable for replacement charges if any books do get lost. And of course any books from the London reference collection remain for use in the library only, so would always be handled by library staff.
I am pleased to hear this, although in practical terms it may be difficult to operate a two-tier system, with books from some libraries going through self-service and books from other libraries handled by staff. I'm hopeful that if the British Library say it's OK, other libraries may change their policies so that this may be possible in a few years' time.
Thanks again for all your comments.
