I am having difficulty following the thread in relation to topic 1. Another reason not to promote normal birth. I can't see the poster or original presentation, but would be interested to read it.
This is extremely concerning. It reminds me of this publication from 2018 https://epubs.rcsi.ie/obsgynart/38/ with the Mary Poppins Title which triggered me to lead the following response along with others in Ireland at the time, https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/views/yourview/readers-blog-bar-mustbe-raised-for-expectations-of-birth-846058.html .
Tantamount to medics making a mockery of 'normal birth' as if it is in the 'pseudoscience/quackery' category. Extremely sad for women. Need to really move the focus to a positive birth experience, but yes as midwives need to protect and guard normal birth!
I don’t like the title, it doesn’t give any clues as to the content or methodology of the study, let's see the peer-reviewed publication.
Kind Regards,
Maeve O’Connell

Thank you Kylie
This is a really important topic and I look forwards to seeing a more detailed peer reviewed paper on this topic.
Best wishes

Hi all
This looked familiar and I realised a very similar poster was at the BMFMS conference in March this year. You can find it on the BMFMS conference website but I’ve attached it here.
Kind regards

I second those questions.
I'm based in the U.S. - I am aware that cost and litigation are major issues here but is the conversation about how to provide care a matter of cost and not evidence?
I am disturbed that recommendations based on what to "promote" would be based on potential litigation costs, but it appears someone has been making that argument or request, and it seems unlikely it would be a care provider. Any idea what spurred this research?
It seems like a some of these reported incidents, i.e. shoulder dystocia, have less to do with the care provided, while others (swabs left, etc.) are clearly malpractice. It also seems like some of this is moreso a matter of informed consent and childbirth education than unexpected outcomes, i.e. patient expectations...
