Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce some PhD funding possibilities and wonder if you might know of potential candidates? Our particular areas of interest are:

1. Equality, Diversity and Citizenship

We would welcome applications to explore new research agendas in the (emerging) areas of rights, equality, and citizenship and public engagement. Of particular interest are social diversities including age, generation, gender assigned at birth, sex (including intersex), sexual identity, race and racialisation, ethnicity, social class, and (dis)ability, and feminist/feminism studies.

Contact: Prof Surya Monro

2. Gender and sexual identities

Society is currently witnessing a proliferation of gender and sexual identities and social understandings of these. At the same time, key areas of challenge regarding gender and sexuality remain, including issues of gender, transphobia, and feminisms. We welcome applications regarding these or related areas within the broad umbrella of 'identities and sexualities'.

Contact: Prof Surya Monro

3. Children, young people and sexuality

Following recent scandals around sexual abuse/grooming of children and young people (CYP) and ongoing concerns over the perceived sexualisation of CYP, we would welcome applications to explore new research agendas in the broad fields of children, young people and sexualities.
This research could explore:
- How, when, or if, CYP should learn about sex, relationships and/or sexuality.
- Understanding and responding to CYP's sexualities.
 - CYP, (sexual) agency and sexual abuse/exploitation.

The overview of the funding opportunities is as follows:

Human and Health Sciences Scholarships: Funded and partially funded PhD opportunities School of Human and Health Sciences, University of Huddersfield

Application Deadline: 7th May, 2019

A new opportunity is available for four outstanding doctoral candidates to develop their careers as researchers. The School of Human and Health Sciences has an ambitious programme of research that is making a real difference to people's lives. We are highly collaborative, working closely with others to tackle real-world problems for health and society and welcome innovative proposals for PhD research which address one or more of our key research themes within the behavioural, social and health sciences.

Three of our scholarships are intended to supplement the UK doctoral loan and therefore comprise a bursary of £6,000 per annum over three years (for full-time study) plus a full fee waiver for Home/EU fees. A fourth three-year scholarship comprises an annual bursary of approximately £15,000 (rising each year) with Home/EU fees waived and is offered as part of the University Alliance, Social Policy Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA) scheme. Overseas applicants are welcome to apply but will be required to cover the annual difference between Home/EU fees and the overseas tuition fee rates (for 2019/20 this difference is £9,835 per annum, payable by the student). Applications for full-time study are preferred, though applications for part-time study will be considered from those whose circumstances prevent full-time study.

The successful candidates would be expected to play an active role in our research community and to contribute an average of 6 hours per week to undergraduate teaching and/or supporting staff research.

Please follow the link for further information about the school, the scholarships, our key research themes, contacts and how to apply.

With thanks and best wishes,

Surya
