Dear friends and colleagues,
Please find below a call for applications - feel free to pass it on to
anyone you think might be interested.
With best wishes,
Endre (on behalf of the Mattering Press team)
Come and join Mattering Press as an intern!
Mattering Press (https://www.matteringpress.org/) is a scholar-led Open
Access (OA) publisher with a strong focus on empirically grounded works
in Science and Technology Studies (STS). Our advisory board consists of
leading figures both in OA and STS, and our books have been authored by
outstanding STS scholars at various stages of their academic career.
The Press is becoming a central forum in STS as well as a leading member
of the ScholarLed consortium (https://scholarled.org/) of OA
academic-led book publishers. To continue to live up to both our and our
readers’ expectations (which are high), we are looking for an intern,
who could help us with the everyday running of the press and contribute
towards developing our digital strategy. More specifically, we are
looking for someone who could help us maintain our website, strengthen
our presence on various social media platforms, and manage manuscripts.
In the first instance, this paid internship would run for six months,
which would give you enough time to familiarise yourself with the Press
and the ins and outs of Open Access book publishing. This is a part time
position, working remotely, and with flexible hours. There is the
expectation of working an average of half a day a week, for a total
payment of £1500. You would be working closely with us, the Mattering
Press team, and liaising with other presses, journals and publishing
communities. In order to perform these tasks well, you should have a
strong interest in STS and/or Open Access publishing, have a keen sense
of how to engage in interesting and relevant ways with diverse
stakeholders on social media (e.g. for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram),
and feel comfortable working in a diverse group of scholars.
If you’re interested, please send us a CV and a covering note (no more
than 500 words) outlining (1) why you would like to join the press as an
intern and (2) a short proposal for a social media campaign oriented
around the press and its books. Please send this to
[log in to unmask] by the end of April 2019.
