We are seeking a Research Officer to join the team in our team in Sheffield. As a start-up company, we’re looking for creative, enterprising individuals enthusiastic about research happening within life sciences, engineering, or other technological disciplines. They must be passionate about translating university research into new technologies, products or services, which have an impact on the world.
The role:
You will be working alongside our University Liaison, Communications, and Community Engagement team. After an initial introductory period, typical responsibilities will include:
- Online research into more than 5,000 cutting-edge technologies from over 200 research institutes worldwide
- Liaising online and offline with Senior R&D professionals in industry
- Analysing research interests of large multinational corporations and SMEs
- Managing internal and external data
- Summarising complex cutting-edge research into simple terms
- Liaising with colleagues to create communications strategies
- Contributing to topical feature content pieces periodically throughout the year
Skills and knowledge required:
The successful person for this role will:
- Be a graduate from any degree discipline but STEM subjects or Post-Graduate level degrees are preferred
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to communicate with colleagues at all levels of the business
- Have the ability to keep accurate records of work
- Be able to work to strict deadlines, to a high standard
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have knowledge of IT suites (such as Microsoft Office, Google Apps etc) and exceptional online research skills
- Have previous experience with social media and knowledge of social media strategies
- Be excited to take ownership of a role and driven by an enjoyment for understanding new research and its transition into commercial applications
- Possess some knowledge of research areas within Science and Engineering disciplines or High-Tech sectors, and ideally, have some knowledge or experience of technology transfer.
