A colleague in Drama, Dan Rebellato, is looking for someone – presumably a postgrad – who could read an early twentieth-century play by Marie Itzerott, Nora oder “Über unsere Kraft”, and give him a written summary of it. The play is about 75 pages long in ‘Fraktur’ (not terribly much text on each page) and is presumably a sort of sequel to Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. Terms are negotiable. He can send a scan of the text. Please contact him directly: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Subject: Translation enquiry...
Dear Daniel
Sorry for this email out of the blue but I’m looking for some advice.
I’m doing some research on Naturalist theatre and I’ve come across an interesting-looking play from the very early twentieth century that appears to be a ‘sequel’ to Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. It’s called (something like) Nora, or Beyond Our Strength by Marie Itzerott. It doesn’t appear ever to have been translated into English and I speak, alas, no German. I’m wondering if it’s possible to find a German-speaker who could read it – and in particular read the forbidding Gothic type! – and do me a scene-by-scene summary of the plot. Obviously, I’d pay.
I’ve approached a couple of translators but they’ve passed on it. I’m wondering if you have any advice on where to look. I wondered if there were any postgraduate students who could do it? It would basically just mean reading the play and then typing up a couple of pages of description; it’s not ‘directly’ translating. I’ve attached a PDF scan of the book so you can see the kind of text it is.
I would pay, of course, though I’m at a loss as to how much to offer. I was thinking it would take a morning to read and maybe an hour or two to write the description, so £150-£200? But that may be entirely wrong.
Do you have any thoughts on where I might find someone who could do this?
Best wishes
Dan
