Hi Hazel,
At our lab we have been pooling 2 extracted samples (one low and one high) and making aliquots of this. This usually lasts around 4 months or so and we run up the data so we have set SD and a running CV%. This saves having to extract a sample every few days and gives you the confidence of the same levels each time at least.
Unfortunately we have not had UKAS look at this process. Last time they looked at our calprotectins they were just unhappy with us using the manufactures QC, so I was hoping that this was a way around it as at least with pooling it you can log the QC on a levey jennings and monitor keep it to 2 SD, which I guess you can't do if re-extracting a different sample every few days.
I am still waiting to see if any 3rd party QC providers will become available but I haven't seen anything that would work as of yet.
Hope this might hel,p though please tell me if you think UKAS would not be happy with using previous patient samples altogether?
Kind Regards
Dave Parris
