The REME Museum is looking for an Archives Assistant to join our team. The primary focus will be assisting the Archivist by providing support to ensure the professional maintenance, care and use of the archives to best practice standards. This post would be suitable for someone wishing to become an archivist or who has started working towards a formal qualification.
Key Responsibilities: to undertake archives care and preservation tasks; provide support for the professional management of the archives; assist the Archivist with processing and cataloguing archives and the delivery of the archives digitisation programme; provide support for public access to the reading room, to assist with enquiries and to undertake the copying services that will be required by researchers. Weekend work will be required.
Desirable knowledge and skills: an appropriate qualification or evidence of an interest in archives and museums is desirable but not essential; good communication and interpersonal skills; eye for detail, logical way of working and good analytical ability; computer literacy, including confidence to undertake scanning and digitisation, using a scanner and familiarity with EPSON Scan software or other scanning software ; must be flexible and reliable.
Terms and Conditions: Hours –22.5 (part time); Salary - £16,770 per annum (pro rata); Holiday – 25 days plus Bank holidays pro rata ; Pension – NEST (Government approved scheme) wef 1 April 2014
