Hi,
I recently received some excavated coins to restore, but they are in a horrible condition. And the strangest thing is, the corrosion is totally purple! I've never seen this before. I've read about silver-chlorides which can turn purple in sunlight. So the coins are severely affected by chlorides. Almost the whole coin turned into purple powder.
What can I do to preserve this? If I remove the purple powder then there's no coin anymore, but if I leave the chlorides inside they will continue 'eating' the coin..
