The School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton offers two MSc level programmes
- MSc in Statistics
- MSc in Statistics with Applications in Medicine.
Both programmes provide a comprehensive Masters level training in Statistics, including theory, application and computation. The Statistics with Applications in Medicine programme has an emphasis on statistical methods in medicine, including clinical trials, epidemiology and genetics.
Past graduates from both programmes have joined major pharmaceutical companies, research teams at MRC Units, government, the financial sector, or have continued their studies to become successful PhD students.
The University of Southampton has one of the largest and strongest Statistics groups in the UK, including Statisticians in Mathematical Sciences, Social Sciences, Medicine, and in the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at Southampton General Hospital. Our research is brought together through the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute.
We offer a large variety of modules, from theoretical to applied, often underpinned by our own research. A broad range of topics is available for summer projects including hands-on data analysis of studies (often supervised by the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit), projects provided by the pharmaceutical industry, and projects investigating statistical methodology.
