We currently have an opportunity for two Full Time Postdoctoral Research Fellows to join the Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics Unit (CEBU) at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (affiliated with the University of Melbourne) in Melbourne on 3-year contracts.
These two exciting new roles are designed to attract talented early-career postdoctoral biostatisticians who wish to develop a methodological research portfolio in cutting-edge areas of biostatistics, while also engaging collaboratively in providing analytic support to major epidemiological cohort studies that are addressing 21st century challenges in health.
Both positions will have a primary focus (~60%) on conducting methodological research relating to problems in the analysis of missing data in the context of complex longitudinal studies and modern analytic approaches (e.g. causal inference methods, multilevel structures). The appointees will work closely with researchers at the MCRI in this area as well as colleagues in the broader Victorian Centre for Biostatistics (ViCBiostat).
One position will also work closely with the LifeCourse initiative, which aims to maximise the research value of MCRI’s unique cohort studies through data integration and novel methodologies, in order to build our understanding of the burden, causes and consequences of childhood and later-life diseases, with particular focus on the early origins of chronic health conditions. The other position will focus specifically on cohort studies within the Centre for Adolescent Health, namely the Victorian Adolescent Health Cohort Study (VAHCS) and embedded Victorian Intergenerational Health Cohort Study (VIHCS), and the Childhood to Adolescence Transition Study (CATS).
Responsibilities:
· Develop a program of research encompassing the extension, implementation and evaluation of methods for handling incomplete data, such as multiple imputation, in complex longitudinal studies and in the context of modern analytic approaches.
· Design, implement and analyse simulation studies, as well as the analysis of applied case studies.
· Develop new software within statistical packages such as Stata and R.
· Advise on, plan, support and conduct appropriate analyses of data from a range of cohort studies.
· Design, fit and interpret statistical models to address important questions in child and adolescent health, particularly regarding the causal pathways affecting health outcomes over the life course.
Salary Range: $94,249 – $110,427 (depending on qualifications and experience) per annum plus superannuation
