You will be hearing from all our 2018 Marketing Excellence Award winners plus two keynote speakers and also a panel made up of current and past students who will be discussing how effective library marketing is from their perspectives.
Lunch is included in the event price and the day will also include the PPRG AGM

The conference speakers are:
Adam Koszary will talk about his latest viral success "chicken in trousers" for the Museum of English Rural Life, taking the Twitter account from 9.7K to 76K followers, with millions of engagements. He will also talk about Galleries, Libraries and Museums institutional approaches to social media and marketing.
Gemma Wood, is the Marketing Executive at CILIP. Before this she was with Sue Hill Recruitment and TFPL for 6 years and handled all their marketing and events, doing all the exciting stuff including SEO and website management, social media management and content strategy for the brands’ blogs.
Claire Back will be discussing Plymouth Libraries Silver Award-winning campaign, “Lunch at the Library”. This was a summer campaign to engage with disadvantaged children and their families. The judges were impressed by the campaign’s engagement with the community and the high quality promotional materials used. Claire Back is a Development Manager with Plymouth Libraries. She has worked for Plymouth in a variety of different roles for about twenty years. In her current role she is responsible for communications, marketing and outreach, which mainly involves telling people about how brilliant libraries are. She also gets to develop and work on cool projects such as Lunch at the Library.
Claire Browne and Stephen Bull will present the University of Birmingham Library Services’ Bronze Award-winning “A Hidden Gem – promoting the overlooked site library”. This campaign promoted “hidden” study space to their students. The campaign combined traditional marketing techniques with contemporary approaches to impact on their users experience. Claire Browne is Customer Relationship Manager for Library Services at the University of Birmingham, working within the Service Development Team. She has over 10 years’ experience working in library customer support roles, and currently has responsibilities for communications, marketing, event organisation, and internal UX projects. Dr. Stephen Bull is Library Engagement Advisor for Library Services at the University of Birmingham, working within the Library Academic Engagement Division. Steve has over 12 years’ experience working for Library Services, and is the named contact for Schools within 2 Colleges, with a primary focus on strategic library engagement support.
Sarah Woodhall and Sinead English will talk about Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Bronze Award-winning campaign “Summer reading journey – escape with a good book”. The campaign encouraged users to engage with the hospital library via their fiction collection. Great use of resources and well-designed promotional materials marked this campaign for a bronze award. Sarah Woodhall is the Operational Librarian at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTr), a role she has been in for nearly 4 years, however she has worked for LTHTr for nearly 10 years, starting out as a library assistant. Before working in the NHS she was to be found in public libraries and before this taught English as a second language in Japan and London. Sinead English is a Library Assistant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and currently in her final year of studying for an MA in Library and Information Services Management at the University of Sheffield. She began working in public libraries after completing her Undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, then moved into the health library sector. Sinead manages the social media for LTHTR Library and leads on a lot of the marketing and promotional projects.
James Bartlett and Karen Whittingham will be discussing the campaign that won them our Social Media Award. “World Book Day at RNIB Library” effectively used social media to make the ten World Book Day (WBD) £1 titles available in accessible formats AND to give away a free audio or braille version to every child with a print disability who wanted one. With no budget and limited staff time, the campaign used social media to great effect to exceed its targets.James Bartlett manages RNIB Library and Newsagent services. RNIB Library is the largest library in the United Kingdom for readers with a print disability who are unable to read standard print. The Library is comprised of audio, braille and Giant Print books and there are currently over 60,000 items in the collection. James joined RNIB in 1990 as a mathematics braillist and has been involved with a wide number of projects for RNIB with partners across the UK and internationally. Karen Whittingham joined RNIB in 2013 as a Reader Services Officer working in the enquiries team. She currently works as a Collections Assistant. Her main duties involve acquisitions, cataloguing, and collections maintenance. She also finds time for library promotion and engagement. She has a Library and Information Technology diploma from Seneca College in Toronto, Canada.
