******Apologies for cross posting******
Jisc’s Institution as e-textbook publisher project was a four-year project investigating the viability of higher education institutions publishing their own e-textbooks.
In addition to publishing eight textbooks, the final output of the project has been to compile and release a toolkit to provide practical help and support to universities wishing to publish their own e-textbooks. The toolkit is aimed at all staff who have an interest in this fast-developing area; information professionals, university press staff, learning and teaching advisors, educational technologists, academic staff and senior university staff.
The toolkit is structured into eight sections, all content is provided with a CC BY licence so that you can share, re-use and re-purpose:
• Why publish textbooks?
• Publishing
• Support for staff
• Technologies
• Marketing and distribution
• Measures of success
• Students as authors of e-textbooks
The toolkit is available at: https://www.jisc.ac.uk/guides/institution-as-e-textbook-publisher-toolkit
More details are available in our recent blog post: https://scholarlycommunications.jiscinvolve.org/wp/2019/01/10/help-and-guidance-for-universities-looking-to-publish-their-own-e-textbooks/
We would like to thank the four projects for their time and effort in creating the toolkit, we would also like to hear your thoughts and suggestions on the toolkit via our blog post
Regards
Graham Stone on behalf of the project teams
