We all know why archives matter and why good records management is so important but how can we get others to listen? What are the key messages to help archive and records management professionals make sure their voices are heard? What issues should the Scottish Council on Archives prioritise on your behalf? Funding needs? Resources? Partnership opportunities? Archives and wellbeing? Records management and governance?
An important part of the SCAs role is to the promote the benefits and positive impact that wider engagement with and use of archives can deliver. We also advocate the importance of efficient records management both in terms of compliance with the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011 and as evidence of good governance and business management.
This workshop will offer some suggestions for generating positive messages about impact and relevance. It will also help the SCA to focus on the priorities for the sector in its advocacy-related work.
The event will include two presentations. Jon Elliot, Head of Public Affairs, ARA, will outline some of ARAs recent advocacy Work. Douglas White, Head of Advocacy, Carnegie UK will summarise initiatives aimed at informing policy decisions.
