24-month Research Associate Post, Open Research Area (ORA) funded project IN-CARE (INequality in Care - How are varying care systems associated with inequalities in care and wellbeing in later life?)

The Department for Global Health & Social Medicine at King's College London invites applications for a 24-month Research Associate post funded by the ESRC through the Open Research Area (ORA). 

The post holder will contribute to an exciting new project investigating (a) how different long-term care systems and recent long-term care reforms are associated with socioeconomic inequalities in care among older adults, and (b) the consequences of these inequalities for the wellbeing of older care recipients and their caregivers. The IN CARE-project has an international scope and is joint work with partners in the Netherlands, Germany and Japan.

Applications are invited from those with research experience at the doctoral level or extensive research experience at postgraduate level, within the social sciences or social statistics. He/she will have research experience in this area, and, a proven ability to carry out longitudinal analysis of complex survey data and multilevel modelling. A proven ability to provide high quality research, evidenced by authorship of publications or reports is also expected. Familiarity with statistical software packages is essential (e.g. SAS or STATA).

The post holder will be based in the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine, home to the Institute of Gerontology at King’s College London (Bush House). He/she will be responsible for preparation and statistical analyses of ELSA and SHARE data, examining the impact of long-term care systems on inequalities in (in)formal care, health and wellbeing. The post holder will be encouraged to contribute to the academic community through publication and conference presentations. He/she will also be expected work on their own initiative, although he/she will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Professor Karen Glaser, the Co-Principal Investigator, Professor Mauricio Avendano and Dr. Ludovico Carrino. The post holder will also liaise with the European and Japanese leaders of the other work packages.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6 scale, £37,412 to £40,568 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 of London Allowance.
