Heatherwick Studio – Collections Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to lead the collection management of Heatherwick Studio’s extensive physical and digital legacy.
This role reports to Head of Buildings & Facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Develop and monitor adherence to the studio’s archive strategy
• Manage the studio’s physical archive space
• Manage the movement of archive material into off-site storage and define a strategy for the studio’s long-term storage requirements in our own buildings and externally
• Oversee cataloguing and preservation of studio’s full historic archive and collections
• Advise and lead on introduction of new collections management system
• Provide an effective archive service for live project teams and all support domains
• Manage Thomas’s personal archive
• Advocate and lobby for the value of collections across the studio
• Work closely with the Workshop on developing systems and policies relating to the logging, travel and care of newly made models
• Work alongside the Project Enabling and Project Support domains to develop procedures and processes to communicate the archive strategy to project teams
• Develop initiatives and systems to proactively capture project activity for the archive such as conducting interviews and producing photography and film content
• Work alongside the Communications team on the use and publicity of the archive through press activity
• Working alongside Digital Systems on the development and implementation of a Digital Archive CMS/Repository, intended to facilitate the capture of key metadata, the preservation of files, and studio-wide accessibility via our internal Intranet
• Support and advise Production (Exhibitions and Objects) and Studio Experience teams with internal displays and with the loaning, display, storage and transport of archive material for external displays
• Forecast and manage an archive budget
• Line-manage members of the archive team;
Skills and experience:
Essential -
• Professional Archive or Museum qualifications or demonstrable working experience within archive or museum setting
• Understanding of collection care, archival preservation and conservation principles
• PC literate - Outlook / Microsoft office / Photoshop
• Working knowledge of database systems
• Object handling and transportation
• Prioritising and planning
• Project management and administration
• Clear and effective communication; written and verbal
Desirable –
• Knowledge of SPECTRUM collection management standard
• Great lobbying skills, especially with senior management
