PhD Positions in Observational Astrophysics at Lancaster University, UK
The Observational Astrophysics group within the Lancaster University Physics Department plans to offer at least two fully funded PhD projects to commence in Autumn 2019.
The group's research is primarily observational and tackles some of the most important questions in astrophysics, broadly centred around understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies and the properties of the Universe itself.
The two PhD projects that are expected to be fully funded are:
1. Galaxy growth and evolution over the last 8 billion years
2. The formation and evolution of the most active star-forming galaxies in the Universe
Additional projects are also available on topics such as: measurements of dark energy with supernovae, gas and galaxies at cosmic noon, reionisation and the first galaxies, and the first generation of stars. These projects are offered on a competitive basis and are subject to the availability of funding. We also welcome applications from students with their own funding.
For more information on specific projects please visit www.lancaster.ac.uk/physics/research/astrophysics/observational-astrophysics/
As an Observational Astrophysics Postgraduate student at Lancaster University, you will join a vibrant group with colleagues at all experience levels. You will also have access to computing resources and travel opportunities as well as career development workshops and research skills training.
