Hi all,
Christmas is upon us and so is our annual Christmas Lecture at the Royal Observatory Greenwich this Friday! Plus there is a festive comet in our skies - comet 46P/Wirtanen. We will be aiming our Annie Maunder Astrographic Telescope (AMAT) towards it this Sunday for a comet livestream event.
This year for our Christmas lecture we are welcoming Dr. Jonathan Nichols from the University of Leicester to talk about the NASA Juno mission as a Juno Science Team member. We're in for a real treat this year with the rich, beautiful data captured by the Juno spacecraft orbiting the gas giant Jupiter. Jonathan will be bringing to life this detective story to see how far we can peel back the layers and expose the secrets of the king of the planets...
More details and booking info are available here: bit.ly/rogchristmas
Our comet livestream will kick off at 20:30 this Sunday. You can view the stream and find out more information here: rmg.co.uk/cometlive
We'll be including interviews from research scientists using the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope to study comet 46P, as well as taking questions about this particular icy visitor and space rocks in general.
Wishing one and all a wonderful festive season (and happy meteorgazing)!
Brendan
Senior Manager for Public Astronomy
