Dear CCP4BB readers,
We are pleased to announce a number of improvements in the
STARANISO and PDBpeep servers, respectively situated at
http://staraniso.globalphasing.org/cgi-bin/staraniso.cgi
and
http://staraniso.globalphasing.org/cgi-bin/PDBpeep.cgi .
We had received many requests for a stereo capability in the
RLViewer that is common to both servers. This would however have been
overly complicated to implement. To achieve the same purpose of
supporting constant 3D perception, we have made the points depth-cued
and have added 'Rock' & 'Roll' options, with speed and amplitude
selection (see help info for new bindings of 'q', 'r' and arrow keys).
Further upgrades to the RLViewer are as follows:
* addition of a Get/Set orientation transfer facility, to provide
identical orientations between views in different browser windows;
* addition of more function buttons to allow colour selection for
each scene independently;
* addition of a new colour (9: pink) to mark up 'red' points with
I/sd(I) > 3 (complement function key binding changed from '9' to 'n');
* addition of a date stamp to Javascript sources to avoid caching
problems;
* change from frames to scrolling windows, and addition of new
function buttons as alternatives to keyboard shortcuts (mostly for the
benefit of tablet & smartphone users!).
STARANISO-specific changes:
* Changed XDS profile-correlation levels to match corresponding
mean I/sd(I) levels;
* Added a recommended citation to the FAQ.
PDBpeep-specific change:
* Added option to select from multiple deposited datasets (for
usage instructions, see under the PDB code entry box).
We would like to thank all the users of these two servers (the
STARANISO server is close to reaching 3,000 successful submissions in
2018) and especially those who have sent us feedback.
We wish everyone a happy holiday season and hope to continue to
enhance your perception and understanding of diffraction anisotropy
(and of data quality in general) throughout the New Year by means of
these two servers.
The STARANISO developers.
