Romantic-Era Lakeland: Walking, Viewing, Writing -- Robert Southey and others
a conference, 27-28 April 2019 in Keswick, home of Southey and the Coleridges
This 2-day conference at beautiful Keswick Museum, under the slopes of Skiddaw, will examine all aspects of Southey’s writing in its contexts, with a special emphasis on Romantic-era walking. Papers on the Lakeland writing of the Wordsworths, the Coleridges, De Quincey, Martineau, Keats, Hemans, Radcliffe, Gilpin etc are most welcome. Papers on sketching and painting by the likes of Constable, Turner, Beaumont, Westall etc are also welcome. We expect to precede and follow the talks with walks, for those interested.
The conference fee will be circa £70, including the conference dinner but excluding accommodation. There are many reasonably-priced B and Bs within a short walk of Keswick Museum.
Organisers: Dr Kerri Andrews and Prof Tim Fulford
(for the Friends of Coleridge, Edge Hill University and De Montfort University)
